The October issue of the South Coast Insider includes a picture of the Iwo Jima monument in Bicentennial Park. Located at the bottom of President Avenue. the monument can’t be seen from either President Avenue or Route 79.

It’s worth taking a few minutes, parking in the lot, and strolling into the park not only to see our own slightly smaller scale monument (but cast from the original sculptor’s artwork), but also to enjoy the Taunton River as it laps the shoreline. Grab a sandwich from Marcucci’s or Marzilli’s and enjoy an Indian Summer lunch hour. You won’t be disappointed.

We visited the most charming and historic building on the Taunton Green this weekend. It is now Runes Cafe at 9 Taunton Green. It is a historic building and the former home of the Taunton Nation Bank. The new owners have done a great job restoring it and the Cafe is fantastic. I have joined a knitting club that meets there on Wed. nights too. The food is excellent and they have a full bar too. We had such a good time, the staff was terrific and it is great to see a historic building become such a nice place on the Taunton Green at last.
